Catching Up
I was informed by a friend (ever so nicely) that I do not update my blog. This, unfortunately, is truth. I'm quite sure that "thinking" about updating it doesn't count for anything. So! Here is a new blog post filled with all the things I could remember since my last post...ahem...3 months ago.
1. Gabe lost his first tooth.
This wasn't as big of an event as I expected from him. The tooth was already quite loose when he told me about it, but he wasn't interested in wiggling it on his own to make it come out sooner. His reply to that suggestion was "It will come out on its own." For some reason, he began to think he wouldn't be able to talk if his tooth came out, but I assured him that it wouldn't make any difference. After about two weeks of waiting, it finally came out while brushing his teeth. He was happy with the money exchange for the tooth.
2. Alex is discovering she can get up on her knees. I'm not sure whether to hope she crawls soon or not. At this point, she rolls everywhere she wants to go.
3. Valerie has stopped milking until after she kids in March. I'm glad for this break because it sure isn't fun to milk when it's very cold outside.
4. Next week is Thanksgiving. Yay! Food! (I've been on a diet. Can you tell?)
5. I've learned, from a genius friend of mine, how to make Artisan bread. This bread is SO incredibly easy and tastes like heaven. I bought the book after trying the basic bread recipe that was given to me. (Artisan Bread In Five Minutes A Day)
6. In October, we made a trip to Louisianna to visit Global Wildlife Center. Gabe and Jasmine has such fun feeding the animals! It's a bit like a safari ride in a long covered wagon. The animals come up to the wagon to eat from your feed cup.
7. Josh and I went to see "The Help". I absolutely LOVED the movie and recommend it.
8. Josh and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary in January. I'm still looking for ideas on something special to do for that occasion.
9. Isn't it sad that I can't think of more than 8 things to write about from the past 3 months?
10. I'll blame it on a lack of properly functioning brain cells.

First Day Of School
After milking Valerie this morning, I noticed one of the goats had her head hung in the fence. Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence. Also unfortunate is the fact that THIS goat loves to work against your efforts to help her, which in turn makes me want to leave her there for the rest of her life. However, being the kindhearted person that I am, I did walk ALL the way around the fence, and I DID spend 10 minutes heaving and pulling and smashing my fingers to finally free her fat, horned head from the tiny fence square she shoved it in. Yes, the picture you now see in your mind is quite funny. However, I have to say that at the time, I wasn't laughing. No, more like calling her unkind names, all of which she never understood and won't help in preventing her from doing the same thing all over again tomorrow. *sigh* Animals are not my forte...and yet, we have so many. Go figure.
Today was our first day of school! We all made it through unscathed. In fact, the children didn't want to stop. I have a sneaky feeling this enthusiasm may not survive the full 170 days. ;)

New Adventures
So, I realize I haven't blogged since May....that's like....all Summer. So, for the two people who actually read this blog, I sincerely apologize.
It's now August, which is hard to believe since it was just May yesterday. I know this because I could have sworn to you that I kept this blog up and updated it pretty frequently....but, I digress.
Yes, August is here. The beginning of school is upon us once again, or in our case, for the first time EVER! Gabe will be starting Kindergarten August 15th. Almost nothing in this house is done without the interaction of ALL parties, so that also means that Jasmine will be starting as well. I'm sure she will comprehend a great deal throughout the year. Marshall will be thrown into the mix as well in some capacity. We are all excited to begin!
Valerie, the milk goat, is back at home with us after another visit to Amy's. So, today began the task of finding a spot to add milking to my morning routine. I'll let you know how that turns out...hopefully sometime before Spring.
Alex is growing it leaps and bounds, as all babies seem to do so well. She loves to sit upright and strains very hard to do it on her own. Her balance is still terrible, so it doesn't work out quite like she wants. She is also starting a little baby food once a day. I think her tastebuds are adjusting now, but she wasn't very impressed with the applesauce and oatmeal I gave her the first time.
She loves attention, which she gets more than her fair share of, and loves to coo and smile at everyone. I'm starting to wonder if she might talk more than Jasmine, but then I wonder how that even be humanly possible. That girl can talk the hind leg off a mule....sort of like Anne of Green Gables, which is where that saying came from. :)
Our home is very lively to say the least and it will soon become even more busy. A new adventure awaits us.....onward we go!

Doctors: Parents Shouldn't Fret over Kids' Fevers
I think this is a good article. It's interesting to finally see someone in the general medical community saying this instead of just practitioners who promote natural remedies.

Turning Five
Gabe is turning FIVE on Saturday. That's so incredibly hard to believe. This age starts a new chapter for us and opens up the world of homeschooling when Fall comes around again. That is exciting and more than a little scary all at once. I am thankful for having been homeschooled myself, so the waters I will enter into are not entirely uncharted. :)
Gabe has discovered Nintendo and loves it, so we bought him one of these Retron 3 systems for his birthday. He has yet to see it, but I know he'll have a fit over it. I think Josh might enjoy it a little too. :)

Marshall
Two years ago, after the most severe labor pains I ever experienced, I held a new baby. The pains were quickly a thing of the past. We named him Marshall, and he's been such a sweetheart since that day. He's our little "ham" and makes me laugh all the time. He has no fear, which results in a lot of climbing and jumping. He's also ALL boy, and that lends itself to the incredible amount of noise he's able to make at any given moment. I enjoy every second he looks at me, every hug he gives, and every kiss he blows me. Happy Birthday Marshall! I love you.

Trip to New Orleans
We're HOME! What a fun weekend in New Orleans!
I posted some pictures from my phone while we were there, but I'm afraid you'll have to wait a bit longer for the photos from my camera. (Technical issues...)
We toured the World War II museum on Friday, which Josh fully appreciated. We walked around a bit and went in the Riverwalk shopping center, where I got my very first candy apple. In a word, "YUM!" For supper, we went to Bywater Bar-B-Que. I had originally picked another BBQ place, but the look of it from the outside turned both of us off, so we found another not far away. We missed lunch, so Josh had a bit of a headache, which turned into him getting sick during dinner. So, basically, I ate at the restaurant and we took his back to the bed and breakfast with us to eat later. He was fine in an hour or so and did enjoy the ribs he ordered. :) That was great place to eat and the guy who served us was super nice.
Saturday we went down and parked and walked AAAAAAAALL day! We went to the Conti Wax Museum, which showcased Louisiana history. We toured the Pharmacy museum, which was neat because they had cases FULL of old remedies and medicines that were used in different time periods. They had a section upstairs made into a "sick room", which showcased what doctors used in labor and delivery. Needless to say, I'm thankful to have things as they are now. Things are far more comfortable than what I saw in that room.
We toured the Old US Mint as well. We were only able to see the first floor because the second and third are being remodeled. Apparently, they are putting a jazz club upstairs. :)
We looked through some shops up and down various streets, heard lots of great music being played in Jackson square and the French Market and even saw some swing dancers.
We ate dinner at Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro. VERY nice place! The waiter even gave us our cheesecake on the house because it was our first time there.
Overall, I'd say Saturday was my favorite day. :)
Sunday, we drove around one last time before we left and made our way towards home. We made a stop at one of the big outlet malls in Gulfport, where I managed to find a few things I was in need of. We saw a movie and ate and then off we went home.
I had a ton of fun, but I thoroughly enjoyed sleeping in my own bed again. :)
