First Day Of School

After milking Valerie this morning, I noticed one of the goats had her head hung in the fence. Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence. Also unfortunate is the fact that THIS goat loves to work against your efforts to help her, which in turn makes me want to leave her there for the rest of her life. However, being the kindhearted person that I am, I did walk ALL the way around the fence, and I DID spend 10 minutes heaving and pulling and smashing my fingers to finally free her fat, horned head from the tiny fence square she shoved it in. Yes, the picture you now see in your mind is quite funny. However, I have to say that at the time, I wasn't laughing. No, more like calling her unkind names, all of which she never understood and won't help in preventing her from doing the same thing all over again tomorrow. *sigh* Animals are not my forte...and yet, we have so many. Go figure.

Today was our first day of school! We all made it through unscathed. In fact, the children didn't want to stop. I have a sneaky feeling this enthusiasm may not survive the full 170 days. ;)

New Adventures

So, I realize I haven't blogged since May....that's like....all Summer. So, for the two people who actually read this blog, I sincerely apologize.

It's now August, which is hard to believe since it was just May yesterday. I know this because I could have sworn to you that I kept this blog up and updated it pretty frequently....but, I digress.

Yes, August is here. The beginning of school is upon us once again, or in our case, for the first time EVER! Gabe will be starting Kindergarten August 15th. Almost nothing in this house is done without the interaction of ALL parties, so that also means that Jasmine will be starting as well. I'm sure she will comprehend a great deal throughout the year. Marshall will be thrown into the mix as well in some capacity. We are all excited to begin!

Valerie, the milk goat, is back at home with us after another visit to Amy's. So, today began the task of finding a spot to add milking to my morning routine. I'll let you know how that turns out...hopefully sometime before Spring.

Alex is growing it leaps and bounds, as all babies seem to do so well. She loves to sit upright and strains very hard to do it on her own. Her balance is still terrible, so it doesn't work out quite like she wants. She is also starting a little baby food once a day. I think her tastebuds are adjusting now, but she wasn't very impressed with the applesauce and oatmeal I gave her the first time.
She loves attention, which she gets more than her fair share of, and loves to coo and smile at everyone. I'm starting to wonder if she might talk more than Jasmine, but then I wonder how that even be humanly possible. That girl can talk the hind leg off a mule....sort of like Anne of Green Gables, which is where that saying came from. :)

Our home is very lively to say the least and it will soon become even more busy. A new adventure awaits us.....onward we go!
